Secretary of State Tre Hargett presented a $2,500 check today to the Maury County Archives. The grant money will be used to help cover the costs associated with hiring temporary staff to index deeds.
The check was awarded as part of the State and National Archival Partnership (SNAP) program, in which the federal government and states provide funding to support the preservation and storage of historical records and to increase public access to those records.
"I appreciate the Maury County Archives' commitment to this program," Secretary Hargett said. "These funds will assist in its important work of preserving these records as well as making them available to the broadest possible audience."
The Secretary of State's office has participated in the SNAP program since 1999. Each year, the office provides about $45,500 in available funding to selected archives within Tennessee based on their submitted proposals.
