Secretary of State Tre Hargett and Representative Jimmy Eldridge presented a $2,500 check today to the Madison County Archives. The grant money will be used to help cover the costs associated with a workshop on proper records care for county officials.
The check was awarded as part of the State and National Archival Partnership (SNAP) program, in which the federal government and states provide funding to support the preservation and storage of historical records and to increase public access to those records.
"I appreciate the Madison County Archives' commitment to this program," Secretary Hargett said. "These funds will assist in their important work of preserving these records as well as making them available to the broadest possible audience."
"I am proud to join with Secretary Hargett to present this grant to the Madison County Archives and to help support their stewardship and safekeeping of our historical documents and records for future generations," Representative Eldridge said.
The Secretary of State's office has participated in the SNAP program since 1999. Each year, the office provides $45,500 in available funding to selected archives within Tennessee based on their submitted proposals.
