Secretary of State Tre Hargett and Senator Dolores Gresham presented a $2,400 check today to the Hardeman County Archives. The grant money will be used to help cover the costs associated with purchasing boxes to store archival material.
The check was awarded as part of the State and National Archival Partnership (SNAP) program, in which the federal government and states provide funding to support the preservation and storage of historical records and to increase public access to those records.
"I appreciate the Hardeman County Archives' commitment to this program," Secretary Hargett said. "These funds will assist in the important work of preserving these records as well as making them available to the broadest possible audience."
"Preserving archival records is so important because they help tell the story of our history to generations who follow us," Senator Gresham said. "These grant funds will be put to good use."
The Secretary of State's office has participated in the SNAP program since 1999. Each year, the office provides $45,500 in available funding to selected archives within Tennessee based on their submitted proposals.
